Introduction
The Department of Economics was established in May 2015. The Department is currently running different programs including BS and MS in Economics and having highly qualified PhD faculty members.
The Department has passed out three batches of BS, Seven of MSc and three batches of MS/MPhil. It is proud to mention here that the passed out graduates of all batches are now serving different organizations inside and outside Pakistan, while some are pursuing their higher studies. We further hope that the Department will prosper and achieve the desired goals in near future.
- The Economics Department is nationally recognized for the quality of faculty scholarship and
for the heterodox character of its curriculum, which allows examination of issues from a
variety of perspectives. - Faculty are engaged in regional economics projects and students are involved in community-
based learning endeavors through well-established placements. - International exchange is supported for faculty and students alike.

- The mission of the Department of Economics at Bacha University consists of three
interrelated components: providing the highest quality instruction to our undergraduate and
graduate students, conducting leading-edge research in economics, and providing leadership
and service to our professional communities. As a unit in a major land-grant university, we
are committed to excel in all three components of our mission. - The Economics Department helps students think critically about the economic issues they
confront in their daily lives, and develop a commitment to be actively engaged with policy
issues in local, national, and global communities. - The Economics Department provides students with preparation in economic concepts and
techniques within a liberal arts environment, the Department has strong interdisciplinary
links with other departments and programs, and The Department’s broad range of
perspectives provides benefits to those programs as well as to its own students.

WORKSHOP “FOUR DAYS WORKSHOP ON “EMPLOYABLE DIGITAL SKILLS FOR THE YOUTH OF MERGED AREAS” (EDSY NMA).
A Four Days Training Workshop on “”Employable Digital Skills for the Youth of Merged Areas (EDSY NMA)” was arranged with the collaboration of KPITB (Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Informational Technology Board) by the Department of Economics. This workshop aimed to build a digitally skilled young labour force in the Newly Merged Districts of the province for supporting youth employment in the digital economy. The workshop equiped 50 students of different departments of Bacha Khan University, Charsadda from NMDs (Newly merged districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa). The workshop offered free training on Blogging and Content Writing comprised of 4 days. Eight sessions were held during these four-day proceedings of the workshop.
Mr. Yasir Jehan (Lecturer, Department of Economics), Focal Person, gave an opening presentation on the importance of digital economy. While Mr. Sohail Siddique, Team Leader,
stressed upon the need of digitization of the small businesses. Mr. Kashif Khan, Trainer, delivered lectures on Web blogging, Content writings, Web Development other related topics. After delivering a 4 days in-person training workshop, the trainees got post-training mentorship from the industry expert to help them to start their freelancing and earning projects, which ensured their employability. The closing ceremony was chaired by Meritorious Professor Dr. Bashir Ahmad, Vice Chancellor, Bacha Khan University, Charsadda. He stressed upon the participants to make better use of the digital skills they learned during the workshop. Dr. Farhat Jabeen, Director (ORIC) concluded the workshop on thanking all the participants and the resource persons for their hard work and very useful presentations. She also thanked the department of Economics for organizing such a fruitful workshop.
At the end of closing ceremony Meritorious Professor Dr. Bashir Ahmad, Vice Chancellor, Bacha Khan University distributed the shields of honor among the training team, head of department of economics, Director ORIC and Focal Person.

⮚ WORKSHOP “TRAINING FOR MPHIL/PHD SUPERVISORS”
On August 8th, 2023, an enlightening and enriching Training of MPhil & PhD Supervisors took place at Bacha Khan University Charsadda. This significant event, organized in collaboration between the Department of Economics and ORIC, aimed to enhance the supervisory skills and knowledge of the academic mentors. The session welcomed Prof. Dr. Mustafeez Ahmad Alvi, an esteemed guest speaker hailing from NUML Islamabad, whose expertise illuminated the event.
The training, graced by the presence of Prof. Dr. Syed Salim Shah, Dean Faculty of Social Sciences, assumed an atmosphere of academic vibrancy. Prof. Dr. Alvi’s discourse offered a profound exploration of the dynamics within the supervisor-supervisee relationship. With insightful emphasis, he underscored the participatory and regulatory facets of the supervisor’s role, advocating for an approach that is collaborative rather than authoritarian.
The event owed its seamless execution to the meticulous efforts of Mr. Muhammad Sohail Khan, Head of the Department of Economics, who served as the main focal person and organizer. Dr. Hamid Ali Khan, the Director of ORIC, played a pivotal role in ensuring the event’s success. The enthusiastic participation of faculty members from diverse departments, particularly those actively engaged in guiding MPhil & PhD scholars, added substantial value to the training.
⮚ WORKSHOP ON R PROGRAMMING LANGUAGE FOR DATA ANALYTICS A collaborative effort between the Department of Economics and the Directorate of ORIC, organized a highly successful Two-Day R Programming Workshop. The event took place on September 7th and 8th, 2023, and witnessed enthusiastic participation from individuals representing various academic disciplines. The primary objective of this comprehensive workshop was to equip participants with essential skills in data analytics and statistical programming using the versatile R language. The workshop’s main resource person was Mr. Muhammad Ishtiaq, a distinguished researcher and data analyst at the Department of Economics, Western Michigan University, USA. Mr. Ishtiaq’s profound expertise in R programming and data analysis made him an invaluable asset for the event. Over the course of the workshop, participants were immersed in a dynamic and interactive learning environment. They were introduced to the fundamentals of R programming, encompassing topics such as data manipulation and visualization techniques. Practical hands-on exercises allowed attendees to apply their newfound knowledge effectively.
The workshop not only provided valuable knowledge but also served as a platform for networking and collaboration among faculty members and students from diverse departments. Bacha Khan University Charsadda continues to demonstrate its dedication to promoting research and academic excellence and is committed to hosting future events that will continue to enrich the university’s academic landscape.
SEMINAR ON “CAREER COUNSELLING AND GOAL SETTING”
The Department of Economics organized seminar on “Career Counselling and Goal Setting” on October 12, 2022 at Bacha Khan University Charsadda. The main purpose was to gain insight and information that would remain effective in their life, personality, and work. The topic of discussion for today’s seminar was Personal development, Career Counselling and Goal Setting. Personal Development is an investment that helps to improve our knowledge and attitude towards life. Personal Development helps an individual to build one’s skills, sets goals, work on the approach, believe in their potential, and improve awareness. The seminar provides a platform to students to identify their vulnerable spots, gain understanding, focus on essential aspects, improve their leadership quality, attitude, and confidence, and provide life learning skills as well as the frequent changes needed in their lifestyles. The Guest Speaker was Mr. Asif Rasool who is currently working as a faculty member in National University of Modern Languages Islamabad and certified trainer and life coach who inculcate his knowledge of life in the mind of youth of Pakistan.
