Dr. Irfan Ullah earned his Ph.D. in Geophysics from the University of São Paulo, Brazil, in 2017. He completed both his M.Phil. and Master's degree in Geophysics from Quaid-i-Azam University, Islamabad, one of Pakistan's leading institutions for earth sciences. His research focuses on the application of advanced geophysical techniques to address challenges in earth and environmental sciences. His primary areas of expertise include geophysical exploration, groundwater investigation, cryosphere (glacier) assessment, landslide hazard evaluation, earthquake hazard assessment, and seismic tomography, particularly P-wave and S-wave tomography for imaging subsurface geological structures. Dr. Ullah has extensive experience in integrating geophysical methods with Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and Remote Sensing for natural resource exploration, environmental monitoring, and geohazard assessment. His research has contributed to the understanding of groundwater resources, glacier dynamics, seismic hazards, and slope instability in the mountainous regions of Pakistan. As Head of the Department of Geology at Bacha Khan University, Charsadda, Dr. Ullah is actively involved in teaching, research supervision, curriculum development, and the establishment of modern geoscience laboratories. He is committed to promoting multidisciplinary research and providing practical, field-based training to students in geology, geophysics, remote sensing, and GIS. His current research interests include: Geophysical Exploration Groundwater Assessment and Aquifer Characterisation Cryosphere and Glacier Studies Landslide Hazard Assessment Earthquake Seismology and Seismic Hazard Analysis P-wave and S-wave Seismic Tomography Environmental and Engineering Geophysics Dr. Ullah continues to collaborate with national and international researchers to advance geoscientific research and develop innovative solutions for sustainable resource management and disaster risk reduction.
